Above 1,650 repatriated families aided in Laghman
MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): Hundreds of repatriated and war-affected families have received aid and cash money in the capital and districts of eastern Laghman province, the gubernatorial spokesman said on Monday.
Sarhadi Zwak told Pajhwok Afghan News the process was launched on Monday to provide1,650 repatriated families with relief aid, thanks to financial support from World Food Programme (WFP) and technical help of the New Consultancy and Relief Organization (NCRO).
He said every family received 50kg flour, 4.5kg ghee, 5kg lentils and other needed food items.
Amidst the aid provision, the Laghman deputy governor, Shahzada Mazlomyar, said the provincial government considered it an obligation at all times to address its people’s issues, requests and suggestions.
Meanwhile, another 93 war-affected families received cash money in the province. Zwak said the families included 17 those who had lost one family member each to war and 76 those whose relatives had been wounded in fighting.
The cash was distributed by the Deputy Governor Mazlomyar personally, he said, adding each family received about 100,000 afs in compensation for a person killed and 50,000 afs for a relative wounded.
Zwak quoted Mazlomyar as calling upon insurgents to avoid civilian casualties during fighting.
Some of the aid recipients expressed gratitude to the provincial administration and unity government while asking rebels to shun violence.
