Fair vote to help avoid bitter past experiences: CEO

Oct 09, 2017 - 17:00

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah on Monday said the national unity government is committed to holding “transparent and “fair elections” to avoid bitter experiences of the past.

Chairing a Cabinet meeting here, Abdullah said elections were one of the key topics discussed at the recently held Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) in Kabul.

“Elections are now a hot topic and the people expect the upcoming elections to be better organized compared to the past years in order bitter experiences are not repeated,” he said.

Abdullah said questions of people and politicians about the election process should be responded by the government and the Independent Election Commission (IECinfo-icon) in order to win the public trust.

He insisted the national unity government was committed to holding transparent and fair elections which were crucial to the country’s stability.

Some political parties and coalitions held a meeting in Kabul few days ago, calling IEC members as unprofessional and dependent. They called for replacement of the incumbent IEC officials with qualified individuals.
