JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Development and reconstructioninfo-icon projects worth 648 million afghanis are being executed in eastern Nuristan province, an official said on Monday.

Governor Hafiz Abdul Qayyum was continuously monitoring the projects’ quality to foreclose the possibility of fraud, his spokesman Mohammad Syed Momand told Pajhwok Afghan News .

Similarly, the provincial council will also get a new building at a cost of 25 million afs. New buildings are also being constructed for the attorney-general office and the statistics directorate, costing 45 million afs and 7.3 million afs respectively.

He said 15 million afs were being spent on a building for the tribal affairs department. Structures for the economy and culture departments would cost 17 million each.

A sum of 14 million afs is being expended on constructing a second building for the educationinfo-icon department while four million afghanis was being spent on a public healthinfo-icon department training centre.

Momand added the schemes also included retaining walls funded by the Ministry of Water and Power, the Ministry of Agricultureinfo-icon and the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development.

He informed construction work on two power plants in Nuristan had also been launched. The provincial project will cost 120 million afghanis while the rural plant will account for 20 million afs

He said the construction of a road in the provincial capital, Paroon, was also ongoing. It is the first road in Nuristan to be asphalted at a cost of 52 million afghanis.

Meanwhile, a resident of Nuristan alleged development projects and construction works were currently being done only in the provincial capital. No attention was being paid to the uplift of rural areas, he deplored.

Anayat Rahman, a tribal leader, asked local authorities to pay attention to other areas' development and reconstruction as well.
