Kidney diseases treatment center opens in Kabul
KABUL (Pajhwok): A ‘well-equipped’ centre for kidney diseases was inaugurated in Kabul on Saturday with the promise to offer free of cost treatment.د
Public Health Minister Dr. Ferozuddin Feroz, who inaugurated the center, said the facility had been equipped with “all standard medical equipment” in three sections.
“The center is also equipped with 40 hemodialysis machines and other materials needed for use”, he said.
The center offers facilities like arteriovenous fistula surgery, double lumen catheter insertion, treatment of acute kidney failure (AKF), chronic kidney diseases and removal of poisons.
He said currently around 5,000 Afghans underwent dialysis three times a week in the country and most of these patients paid heavily for their treatment abroad.
“But fortunately such centers are now available inside the country where patients are treated free of cost”, Feroz added.
The minister promised such centers would be increased across the country and would be opened in Kandahar, Herat and Balkh provinces in near future.
“We also have plan for next year to open such centers in Paktia, Kunduz, Parwan and Bamyan provinces,” he said.
Four months ago, a kidney hospital was opened in Nangarhar province, benefitting many.
