Rabbani paid rich tribute on 6th death anniversary

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The sixth death anniversary of former president and High Peace Councilinfo-icon (HPC) chief Burhanuddin Rabbani was observed in Kabul on Thursday, with participants demanding security, peace and unity in Afghanistaninfo-icon.

The ceremony was attended by a number of former jihadiinfo-icon leaders, current and former government officials, representatives of political parties and hundreds of supporters of Rabbani.

A message from President Ashraf Ghani was also read out by acting interior minister Wais Barmak at the ceremony. The president in his message called Rabbani one of unique figures in the Afghanistan’s modern history.

“His name would remain in our history forever, he was the man of the field in Jihadinfo-icon, trainer in educationinfo-icon and a prominent figure and a martyr of peace in Afghanistan, these specifications make him unique,” the president said in his message.

No one heard divisive words from Rabbani because he believed in unity among Afghans what he considered one of his noble jobs, he said.

Former president Hamid Karzai, talking at the ceremony said: “The best respect to Rabbani would be to follow his way of unity among different tribes of this country, particularly in the current time.”

“Our unity is under attack, I wish Rabbani was alive because he was a strong collaborator of Afghanistan, protecting our country by ourselves was one of Rabani’s high wishes,” he said.

Jihadi leader Abdul Rab Rasoul Sayyaf, who also attended the ceremony, said some media outlets called Mujahideeninfo-icon as betrayers and looters.

“But we can surely say that those who defended this country at the cost of their lives could not be betrayers, we freed this country and can say this proudly, we also defend this country now and in future, only Mujahideen can do this,” he said.

Salahuddin Rabbani, acting foreign minister and head of Jamiat-i-Islamiinfo-icon Afghanistan (JIA), said the martyrs had left behind strong messages for the future generation of Afghanistan by sacrificing their lives.

“These messages should be spread to the next generations by holding such programs”, he said.

Second deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mohammad Mohaqiq, said Burhanuddin Rabbani was a teacher, a guide and a great leader of Afghanistan, who always struggled for unity among Afghans.

Meshrano Jirgainfo-icon Speaker Fazal Hadi Muslimyar analogized Rabbani to a book and said: “Rabbani was like a book, I ask all to read the book of Jihad of this country.”
