National Archives our historic, cultural treasure: CEO

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Visiting the National Archives, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah on Tuesday promised to submit some historic papers and linear works available with him to the archives, asking people to cooperate with the cultural institute.

Abdullah visited the National Archives of Afghanistaninfo-icon Tuesday morning, a statement from his office said. Abdullah also met officials of Ministry of Information and Culture during his visit.

“Historic monuments, linear work and miniatures at the Afghanistan National Archives are our major cultural and historic treasure,” the statement quoted Abdullah as saying.

He said linear work, historic letters, photos and books of the National Archives were unique on regional level.

He appreciated officials of the archive for their efforts at protecting historic objects and said: “National Archive officers have discharged their responsibility with honesty in protecting our cultural and historic heritage weather it was in the past or now,” the CEO said.

He said some historic linear works and letters were available with him and he would submit them to the National Archives. He also urged people and government institutions to register their historic relics in the archives.

The CEO directed officials of the Information and Culture Ministry to assess problems in the national archives and address them.

The archives officials said 9,000 linear works, 100,000 historic documents and 50,000 photos and thousands of books in different languages dating back to first Islamic centaury and before were registered in the Afghanistan’s National Archives, which was formally opened in 1977.
