43 Taliban killed after convoy attack in Faryab

MAIMANA (Pajhwok): At least 43 Talibaninfo-icon insurgents, including four commanders, have been killed during a security forces’ operation in Khwaja Sabzposh district of northern Faryab province, a military official said on Sunday.

Gen. Jannat Gul, 209th Shaheen Military Corps’ 1st Brigade commander in Faryab, told Pajhwok Afghan News the ground and air offensive was launched after a commando forces convoy was ambushed by Taliban militants.

He said the convoy of the special forces was en route to Maimana, Faryab’s capital, from northern Balkh province

He said the subsequent clash between the sides lasted for 24 hours, leaving 43 militants dead and 24 soldiers wounded. He said seven vehicles belonging to security forces were also destroyed during the clash.

However, there has been no word from insurgents in this regard.
