4th cleric gunned down in Nangarhar in less than a month

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen have shot dead a religious scholar in the Behsud district of eastern Nangarhar province, the fourth cleric killed in less than a month.

Also a teacher, the scholar was killed by two motorcyclists in the Akhunzada village of the district on Wednesday afternoon.

Ahmad Riyaz, a relative of the victim, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Ghulam Faroq was on his way home when killed near a police check-post.

He was originally a resident of the Lalmi village of Chaparhar district but was working as a schoolteacher in Akhunzada area.

The governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, confirmed the incident and said an investigation was underway.
