1 civilian killed, 2 injured in Herat police firing

FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): One civilian was killed and two others wounded when police forces from a security post opened fire on a car in Adraskan district of western Herat province, officials and residents said.

The incident took place when the car was heading from Farah province to Herat in Shabid area of Adraskan district on Herat-Farah highway on Tuesday afternoon.

Obaiduall, the driver of the car who was killed in the incident belonged to Sangroz area of Farah capital.

His brother, Habibullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News that he was unaware about the motive behind police firing on innocent people.

An elder man and a woman who were injured in the incident were also residents of Sangroz village and shifted to hospital to Herat for treatment, he said.

Herat police spokesman, Abdul Ahad Walizada, confirmed the incident and said three policemen of the security post were arrested for investigation.

On August 30, eyewitnesses told Pajhwok that six people were injured when police opened fire on a passenger bus in Bala Bolok district of Farah. But police denied the claim.
