Sep 11, 2017 - 20:21

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): A notorious commander was among four Talibaninfo-icon insurgents killed in an airstrike by Afghan forces in Charkh district of central Logar province, officials said on Monday.

Logar governor’s spokesman Salim Saleh told Pajhwok Afghan News the Afghan air forces targeted a vehicle carrying insurgents in Abjosh area of the district on Sunday night.

He said the air raid left four insurgents dead, including a notorious commander Qari Ismail. A vehicle, weapons and other ammunition belonging to insurgents were destroyed in the strike.

Saleh said Qari Ismail had been involved in killings, explosions and attacks in Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital, and Charkh district over the past few years. “With the killing of Qari Ismail, Taliban insurgents are weakened in the province.”

A resident of Abjosh area, Sayed Mahbob, confirmed four militants were killed when their car was targeted from the air in their village on Sunday. “Four insurgents were killed in the air raid, but their faces were charred beyond recognition.”

The Ministry of Interior in a statement confirmed the airstrike, saying besides Qari Ismail, Qari Sirajuddin, Mohammad Tahir and Ahmad Gul were also among the dead.

Saleh said many insurgents stormed security check points in Charkh district on Sunday afternoon; but they were pushed back.

There has been so far no word from insurgents in this regard.
