US military confirms ISIS-K leader’s death

US military confirms ISIS-K leader’s death

Aug 13, 2017 - 12:08

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The US military in Afghanistaninfo-icon on Sunday confirmed the killing of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria-Khorasan (ISIS-K) chief for eastern Kunar province.

Abdul Rahman was killed in an air strike along with three senior ISIS-K members in the Dara-i-Pech district of the province on Aug. 10, the US military said in a statement.

Gen. John Nicholson, commander of US Forces-Afghanistan, was quoted as saying: “The death of Abdul Rahman deals yet another blow to the senior leadership of ISIS-K.”

He added the militant leader found out, just like those before him, there were no safe havens in Afghanistan.  “We will hunt them down until they are no longer a threat to the Afghan people and the region.”

Abdul Rahman, in addition to being a provincial emir, was a primary candidate to become the ISIS-K chief following the death of Abu Sayed in July 2017.
