KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Fifteen people, including eight soldiers, were killed and 40 others wounded when a suicide bomber targeted a military truck in Pakistaninfo-icon’s southwestern Balochistan province, officials said on Saturday.

“A man riding a motorbike came close to the army truck and blew himself up,” a senior official of the bomb disposal squad told the influential Pakistani newspaper Dawn.

Many vehicles, apart from the army truck, caught fire after the powerful explosion, which was heard all across the city. Windowpanes of nearby buildings were smashed by the impact of the blast.

The army media wing, Inter-Services Public Relation (ISPR), confirmed that 15 people, including seven civilians, were killed and 25 others wounded in the attack in Pishin.

The dead and the wounded were shifted to the Civil Hospital in Quetta, where along with other healthinfo-icon facilities in the city a state of emergency had been declared.

No one has so far claimed responsibility for the overnight blast. Three fire tenders reached the scene immediately, but the blaze was too huge to control. Law-enforcement personnel also rushed to the site.

The provincial home minister put the number of wounded at 40. “According to the information we have received so far, there are around 15 casualties, people who were martyred, and around 40 people were wounded,” Sarfraz Bugti said.

The Pishin Stop neighbourhood, dotted with hotels, restaurants and shops, is in the high-security zone that houses several important buildings, including FC Headquarters, Balochistan Assembly, Chief Minister House, Governor House and High Court.
