Don’t kill Afghans as rebels: Karzai tells US

Don’t kill Afghans as rebels: Karzai tells US

Aug 12, 2017 - 23:03

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Former President Hamid Karzai on Saturday strongly condemned the civilian killings in Friday’s Nangarhar airstrike, asking the US to stop killing Afghans under the pretext of being insurgents.

On Friday, according to local residents and officials, the US forces, during an operation against Daesh, air raided a Suzuki vehicle belonging to civilians in Haska Mena district of the eastern province, leaving 17 people dead and wounded, including women and children.

However, US-force Afghanistan in a statement late on Friday denied casualties to civilians, saying “an airstrike killed a number of militants and destroyed their vehicle in the Haska Mena district on the evening of August 10.”

A statement from the ex-president office received by Pajhwok Afghan News said Hamid Karzai expressed his deep condolences and worries over the Haska Mena incident.

Karzai said targeting Afghan villages and remote areas and killing civilians on the false excuse for war against terror was crime against humanity, adding such acts were against all international principles and norms.

He once again asked US government to avoid killing Afghans on the pretext of war against terror.
