Contract for 1st phase of mega water supply plan signed

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhowk): The Presidential Palace on Sunday hosted a contract-signing ceremony for initiating work on the phase-one of a three-phase water supply project in Kabul, dubbed as the largest in Afghanistaninfo-icon.

Funded jointly by the United States, France and Germany, the water supply project would cost 72 million euros and a contract worth $11 million was signed at Sunday’s ceremony, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.

President Ashraf Ghani and Urban Water Supply and Canalization Corporation chief Yalani and Abdul Basir Latifi, the head of Mumtaz Group, the contractor, were present at the ceremony.

The first phase of the project, one of the largest in Afghanistan, would benefit 10,000 families and would cost around $11 million with financial support from the US Agency for International Development (USAIDinfo-icon) and would take next three years to be completed by the Mumtaz group.
