ZARANJ (Pajhwok): A young resident of southwestern Nimroz province has launched a book-collecting campaign to encourage the reading habit and enrich the Information and Culture Department Library.

Mohammad Zarif Yousafzai has erected a tent in Zaranj, the provincial capital, as part of his campaign to promote the reading culture in a city where bibliophilia has been on the wane.

“I thought why not collect books which friend have already read and pass them on to others. Such books do have the chance of being read. Fortunately, people everywhere have liked the idea so much,” he remarked.

Yousafzai added he had collected 250 books in a week and they would be delivered to the Information and Culture Department Library.

Bahram Haqmal, another young man, said: “I am very happy with Yousafzai having launched this drive. I gave him two books. It’s encouraging that many people have donated books to him.”

Information and Culture Director Syed Hamid Sadaat, meanwhile, hailed Yousafzai’s effort and said his department admired the initiative to promote the reading habit among people.
