KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Pakistaninfo-icon on Wednesday lodged a protest with Afghanistaninfo-icon over detention of its two diplomats in Kabul, who were reportedly released after three hours.

In a statement, the Pakistan's foreign ministry said it summoned the Afghan deputy head of mission in Islamabad and handed over a protest note over the incident.

Islamabad said the detentions at the hands of Afghan security agencies were a violation of the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations and against the spirit of the brotherly relations between the two countries.

However, GeoNews reported that the two Pakistani embassy officials were released after being detained by the National Directorate of Security, the spy service, in Kabul.

The two officials, a visa assistant and driver, had reached the Pakistani Embassy in Kabul after being released, the report said.

Pakistan emphasized such incidents undermined the constructive engagement which the two countries envisaged for strengthening of bilateral ties.

“We urge the Afghan government to take immediate steps to ensure the security and safety of our diplomatic personnel and premises and to ensure that such incident do not take place in future.”
