Senior border police official killed in Takhar ambush

TALOQAN (Pajhwok): A senior border police official was killed and five others were wounded in a Talibaninfo-icon attack in Yangi Kala district of northeastern Takhar province, an official said.

Sunnatullah Temor, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the chief of staff of 2nd unit border police was traveling along with four other officials to Darqad and Khowaja Bahauddin districts for assessing security check-posts when they came under attack from the Taliban.

Col. Payinda Khan was killed and his four colleagues were wounded including the border police intelligence manager and recruitment manager, Temor added.

Tariq, a resident of the locality, said the Taliban ambushed a security forces convoy in Kohna Zakh area.

One tank and two ranger police vehicles were destroyed in the ensuing clash,ge saud, but had no information about casualties.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed the killing of Payinda Khan and said the fighters attacked security forces in Khowaja Bahauddin district.
