Neighboring countries supporting Taliban in various forms: Jahid

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Interior Minister Lt. Gen. Taj Mohammad Jahid on Wednesday chaired a high level security meeting in the capital of northern Balkh province.

The minister was briefed on the security situation in Faryab, Sari-i-Pul and Jawzjan provinces at the meeting in Mazar-i-Sharif.

Governor Atta Mohammad Noor, Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon members, provincial council members and common people attended the grand meeting.

Jahid accused neighboring countries of supporting terrorism in different forms. He did not name any country.

The minister said continued support to Talibaninfo-icon from neighboring countries helped the militants establish training centres and expand their terrorist activities.

Referring to strategic agreements with foreign countries, he said the international community was helping Afghanistaninfo-icon to train and equip its security forces and the process would continue.

Balkh Noor asked the government to switch to offensive mode from defensive in the ongoing war against terrorism.

He said insurgency in the north was on the rise because militants had been provided the opportunity to grow.

The interior minister hailed the performance of the provincial government and assured them of considering their demands.
