Stop Pakistan from building border posts: MPs to govt

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Senators on Tuesday asked the government to prevent Pakistaninfo-icon from building security posts along the Durand Lineinfo-icon or let the Afghans defend their soil in southeastern Paktia and Paktika provinces.  

Upper house member from Paktika Juma Din Ginyawal told today’s session that Pakistani forces were establishing security check posts in Gomal district.

“The Pakistani forces have established one security post 250 metres inside Afghanistaninfo-icon territory.  A second one is recently completed and a third security post is under construction.”

The lawmaker said Pakistani officials had asked local residents to cut down forests in Kharoti locality of Gomal district in return for food.

“Elders of Kharoti and Maliksher tribes were called by the ISIinfo-icon (Pakistan’s premier intelligence agency) to Khawrang area of Pakistan and told if they did not cut the trees, they would do it themselves and the timber would not be given to the locals.”

Meshrano Jirgainfo-icon member from Paktia province Baz Mohammad Zurmati claimed Pakistan was also buildings security posts in Argon district of Paktika and other areas.

The senators asked the government to take appropriate measures for preventing the constructions along the Durand Line or allow the people to move and protect their territory.

Senate’s deputy chairman Mohammad Alam Ezedyar, who presided over the session, said the government should be serious in protection of Afghanistan’s territory and prevent Pakistan from construction of security posts.

Ezedyar said: “We call on border security forces on behalf of the Senate to share detailed information with the government and both the countries should carry out construction along the Durand Line in consultation with each other.”
