Nangarhar customs revenue up by 4.14mn afs
JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Revenue of the Customs Department of eastern Nangarhar province has increased following computerization of the department, an official said Monday.
The customs department collected 2.5 billion afghanis in the first quarter of the current fiscal year, showing 4.14 million afghanis increase over last year’s returns.
Elhamuddin Muzhar, the provincial customs director, told Pajhwok Afghan News that effective steps had been taken to prevent corruption in the key department.
Increase in personnel, computerizing of the tax collection system, rapid provision of tax forms to traders and other facilities were reasons that led to the increase in revenue, Mazhar said.
He confirmed corruption continued in the customs, but its level had decreased after the system was computerized.
“Customs is among government offices where corruption cannot be ruled out, but we have prevented it to a greater extent,” he said.
He said the revenue collected in the first quarter of current fiscal year was 4.14 million afghanis higher than collected during the same period last year.
“In the first quarter, we collected 2.5 billion afghanis which shows 4.14 million increase,” he said.
