SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Farmers on Thursday displayed their products in a first ever agricultureinfo-icon exhibition in northern Jawzjan province.

The farmers and agriculture officials said the aim of the exhibition was to find market for agriculture goods produced in the province.

Mohammad Rahman Arghandiwal, the provincial agriculture, irrigation and livestock director, said the agricultural products of Jawzjan were showcased at 40 stalls set up at the show.

“We want to make familiar all relevant institutes including foreign organizations with our agricultural products and also want them to help us develop our agriculture,” he said.

He added the main goal of the exhibition was to find market for local products inside the country and abroad.

“That was the reason we prepared some plans for the current new solar yearinfo-icon in Jawzjan to develop agriculture and seek proper ways for better livelihood of farmers,” Arghandiwal said.

Grapes and pistachio gave satisfactory yield in Jawzjan despite scarcity of irrigation water, the official said, promising special attention to growing different types of grapes and pistachio in Jawzjan this year.

He said the day-long exhibition would help attract support from donor countries in improving Jawzjan’s agriculture.

Friba, a gardener, said she was satisfied with harvests from her farms, earning her enough money.

“Before starting work as a farmer, I needed money and I had been in economic problems, but now I have a garden besides a house of my own. I grow different types of vegetables for personal use and for sale in the market,” she said.

Haji Abdul Jalil, a farmer from Tanka area of Shibergahan, the provincial capital, said the shortage of irrigation water was one of major problems farmers faced in Jawzjan.

He said the agriculture sector would significantly improve if the water shortage problem was resolved.
