AFF delays organisational election citing unfriendly situation
KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF) has postponed the organisation’s election scheduled for April 5 citing unfavorable environment in the country, a statement from the AFF said on Tuesday.
Earlier on February 17 AFF announced election in the organisation would be held on April 5 this year.
The football federation regretted the postponement. However, the decision to postpone the elections was taken after consultation with FIFA and in light of the situation on the ground in Afghanistan.
Unfortunately, it was not possible in the current environment to hold election in a peaceful, transparent and orderly electoral process, as it was required by AFF and FIFA Statutes, the statement said.
The AFF sought the assistance and guidance of FIFA and FIFA recommended to the AFF not to hold elections "until circumstances allow for a proper electoral process in a calm and safe context without undue interference."
The AFF would do its best to hold election as soon as possible and as soon as the circumstances allow doing so.
The AFF had been informed that the FIFA Member Associations Committee, which is scheduled to meet in mid-April 2017, would be briefed about the situation and this Committee would then decide on any further measures to be taken.
The AFF would continue to rely on the recommendations and decisions of FIFA as the world's governing football authority.
Upon further recommendation of FIFA, in the meantime, the current administration of the AFF will continue to manage the daily affairs of the federation, and it would immediately provide all information relevant to this situation.
