76 persons injured in beginning days of solar year: Hospital sources
Zonal Hospital Spokesman Mohammad Rafiq Sherzai told Pajhwok Afghan News, people of different ages injured due to traffic accident in Herat City, the provincial capital, and other parts of the province had been admitted in the hospital for treatment.
He added, most of the wounded people were youth and teenagers who have had accidents due to over speed driving and unawareness of traffic rules.
“A total of 76 people have been injured in the first three days of the new year, happily no death case has been recorded”, he added. 15 to 20 percent of the wounded residents were women.
Sherzai recalled, 150 injured had been evacuated to the hospital in the first three days of the last year.
But, Herat province Traffic officials said, no traffic accident has occurred in the first three days of the new-year, only two accidents took place in the fourth day.
Provincial traffic officer, Ghulam Dastagir Homayun told Pajhwok, no traffic accidents have occurred in Herat city, except for the Friday when two traffic accidents occurred in Karukh district.
Homayun was concerned over the increase of vehicles in the city and said, “The number of vehicles in the city was on the raise. Currently there have been over 400,000 vehicles in Herat city making trafficking management difficult.”
Some residents of Herat province showed their concerns over the increasing traffic accident in the city and ask the government to take legal action against those who breaks traffic rules and drive illegally.
Ahmad Nadeem, the resident of Bagh Morad area in Herat city, said: “More traffic accidents have been happening, motorbike were being driven recklessly asking the officials to take notice of the situation.”
Farid Ahmad, another dweller said: “The increasing number of motorbikes driven by youth violation of traffic laws that involved over speeding was main reasons behind traffic incident and poor management of traffic in the city.”
Wakil Ahmad, a taxi driver said: “The authorities should limit the export of motorbikes and take action against those violating the traffic laws if they want to bring management and organised flow of traffic.”
People have also accused the drivers for careless driving. Some drivers were addicted to narcotics and some have no driving experience, they believed.
Traffic accidents and he loss of human lives in vehicles mishaps was said to be a huge challenged in Heart and need immediate attention from authorities.
