QALAT (Pajhwok): Seventeen Taliban militants have been killed and nearly a dozen others wounded during operations in southern Zabul province, officials said on Sunday.

The governor’s spokesperson, Gul Islam Siyal, told Pajhwok Afghan News security forces attacked militants in Qarghio locality of Shah Joy district last night, killing 12 and wounding 11 more.

The forces also recaptured a police ranger vehicle the rebels had hijacked earlier. Another five militants were killed in operations by security forces in Spina Ghbarga locality of Qalat city, the provincial capital, last night, Siyal said.

Elsewhere, seven militants were arrested by security forces along with weapons and ammunition in central Logar province, officials said on Sunday.

Logar governor’s spokesperson, Salim Saleh, told Pajhwok Afghan News the seven were arrested during clearing operations in different parts of Pul Aalam city, the provincial capital, on Saturday.

He added security forces seized two Kalashnikov, hand-grenades, security forces uniform and weapons from militants.

A local resident Haji Zarab Gul confirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News that security forces had started operations and had detained some suspects as well.

The Talibaninfo-icon have not yet commented about the incidents in Zabul and Logar provinces.

Logar officials say the operations will be extended to other districts in order to improve security ahead of new year’s festivities because the province serves as a gateway to central capital Kabulinfo-icon.
