PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): A five-member Talibaninfo-icon delegation recently visited China, as Beijing continues to make efforts to promote the Afghan-led reconciliation drive, a media report said on Tuesday.

Led by Taliban’s Qatar office head Sher Abbas Stanikazai, the team included Maulviinfo-icon Shahabuddin Dilawar, Jan Muhammad Madani, Salam Hanafi and Dr Saleh, a Pakistani newspaper reported.

The Express Tribune quoted Taliban sources as saying the visit took place in response to the Chinese government’s invitation. China has been prodding the Taliban to join the peace process.

It added: “The visit was part of relations of the political office with European countries such as Norway, Germany, France, Britain as well as neighbouring and regional countries.”

One Taliban member told the daily the relations were aimed at advancing the cause of peace in the war-devastated country and seeking a negotiated end to the ongoing conflict.
