4 Taliban dead, key areas recaptured in Takhar
TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Four Taliban insurgents were killed and some areas recaptured during an operation in the Darqad district of northeastern Takhar province, an official said on Tuesday.
Maj. Gen. Shir Aziz Kamawal, commander for the 808th Spin Zar zone, told Pajhwok Afghan News that security forces conducted the offensive in Darqad district on Monday night, advancing 10 kilometers forward on rebels.
He said four Taliban were killed during the operation and Mosazai, Babrak, Noorkhel, and Zara Zhranda areas were retaken from the insurgents.
Meanwhile, a resident of Darqad district, Najmuddin, said the Taliban couldn’t engage in face-to-face firefight with security forces. “When security forces arrive for operation at the area then rebels flee, but the insurgents stage a comeback when security personnel leave the area.”
It’s pertinent to mention that Yangi Kala and Khwaja Bahauddin districts had been so far cleared of militants during the operation. Security forces planned to drive insurgents away from Darqad district during the offensive.
There has been so far no word from insurgents in this regard.
Darqad is one of insecure districts of Takhar which fell to militants last year but was recaptured after one month. Many areas of the district are still under Taliban control.
