Contracts for 48 projects worth 414m afs signed
KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) on Sunday signed contracts for 48 development projects with village development councils and private construction companies.
MRRD minister Eng. Nasir Ahmad Durrani during the contracts’ signing ceremony said the projects included construction of bridges, culverts, cultural centers, roads, water canals, irrigation dams and retaining walls.
Without giving details, he said the projects would cost 414 million afghanis to be paid by the Asian Development Bank, India and the Afghan government.
The projects to be implemented in 21 provinces will generate job opportunities for more than 86,000 people and benefit more than 208,000 people directly or indirectly, Durrani said.
The minister said 712 development projects costing more than three billion afghanis were implemented across the country this year.
His ministry provided work opportunities for around 67,000 rural women through rural industries program and was trying to extend the program to another 15 provinces next year.
Half of development councils are women who are given a 20 percent participation in implementation of development projects.
