AIBAK (Pajhwok): An irrigation project watering 3,000 hectares of land has been completed in the Hazrat Sultan district of northern Samangan province, an official said on Sunday.
Aibak River Basin deputy head Amanullah Haqmal told Pajhwok Afghan News the water channel with two meters width and three meters height was built in Asiabad valley in six months.
He said the project would provide irrigation water to 3,000 hectares of land in eight villages of Hazrat Sultan.
The district chief, Sirajuddin Fitrat, said the dam in Asiabad providing water to the canal was built three years ago but it was partially damaged as a result of floods last year. Farmers were faced with problems after the dam was damaged.
Mullah Mohammad Hashim, an influential man from Asiabad, welcomed the project’s implementation and said that Hazrat Sultan was a fertile district, where arable land would increase with the construction of the canal.
